December 2020 — This month, U.S. Congressional leaders have reached a deal on an emergency COVID-19 relief bill with $25 billion in emergency rental assistance. It also includes an extension of the CDC’s eviction moratorium through January 31, 2020. You can find our summary of what this means for Rhode Islanders here.

Safe, healthy and affordable homes are more important than ever. Home is the ultimate space — not only our place of rest, but the pandemic has turned our homes into schools, work spaces, places for entertainment and staying healthy.

On behalf of Homes RI, we would like to recognize our Rhode Island delegation, Senators Jack Reed and Sheldon Whitehouse and Representatives Jim Langevin and David Cicilline for their leadership in making this deal happen. According to an NPR survey, 1 in 3 Americans say they’re not confident that they will be able to cover their basic needs. The American people need continued investment like this — investments in the foundation for jobs and economic recovery: homes.

We know things will not be significantly different at the end of the month. This gives our state leaders an opportunity to step in and provide protections for our neighbors. We welcome these investments. They put us on the right track.

Thank you!
